A mosaic blanket’s care instructions come from its yarn and construction, not from the word “crochet.” Save the labels for both picture colors and the border before the project is finished.
Make one care record
Record the yarn brand, range, fiber content and care symbols. Include any different yarn used for edging or repairs. If a label is missing, look up the exact yarn on the manufacturer’s website rather than following instructions for something with a similar name.
Yarnspirations recommends checking the ball band or the yarn’s care information, because washing instructions vary between yarns.
Use the sample to check the routine
Care for a finished sample before treating the full blanket. Check how the colors, fabric and secured ends look afterward. This also gives you a chance to see whether your chosen routine changes the measurements.
Follow the specified temperature, washing method and drying method separately. Permission to machine wash does not automatically mean permission to tumble dry or iron.
Plan for the size of the blanket
A large blanket needs enough room for the permitted washing and drying process. Consider its wet weight and how you will support it when moving it. Avoid leaving part of a wet blanket hanging unsupported while arranging the rest.
If the yarn calls for flat drying, prepare a suitable clean area in advance. Let the blanket dry fully before folding it away.
Check before storing
Inspect the edges, joins and any fringe. Deal with a loose end before it becomes difficult to find again. Choose clean, dry storage appropriate to the yarn, and keep the blanket away from anything that might catch the stitches.
Keep labels and a small amount of leftover yarn together in a separate project envelope. Add the pattern name, hook size and final measurements so a future repair does not begin with guessing.
Give the recipient useful instructions
For a gift, include a plain-language care card based on the actual yarn label. Write the permitted wash and dry methods clearly. Add the fiber content and a note explaining where you kept any spare yarn. Practical information helps the blanket become something the recipient can use comfortably, rather than something they are afraid to wash.
A pattern to explore
Keep the yarn label with your project notes so you know how to wash and store the finished blanket later.
