Christmas Candle Workshop - Crochet Blanket Pattern
Two little mice make Christmas candles beneath a striped canopy. A bell, wreath, fir branches and folk-style floral borders frame their festive workshop.
Choose Overlay Mosaic Crochet or Tapestry Crochet. Each complete pattern contains CUT and NO-CUT alternatives. Choose one method and follow it from Row 1 through the final row.
PATTERN SPECIFICATIONS
- Mosaic: 500 chart stitches x 571 rows, including a B-color top closing row.
- Tapestry: 250 chart stitches x 285 rows.
- Side stitches: 2 sc at each side; 504 worked stitches for Mosaic or 254 for Tapestry.
- Two colors: A cream; B forest green.
- English instructions, US crochet terms, right-handed working directions.
- Mosaic: sc and overlay DC. Tapestry: BLO sc with carried yarn.
Tapestry uses the original 250 x 285 color grid. Mosaic keeps fine motifs at a larger stitch count, with local outline adjustments for overlay stitches using 500 stitches across and 570 picture rows, plus one B-color top closing row. Use the chart and preview for your chosen technique.
WHAT IS INCLUDED
- Mosaic: 101-page complete PDF, 42 enlarged chart sections, stitch keys and both sets of written rows. CUT starts on page 46; NO-CUT starts on page 74.
- Tapestry: 41-page complete PDF, 12 enlarged chart sections, stitch keys and both sets of written rows. CUT starts on page 16; NO-CUT starts on page 29.
- Separate one-page charts for zoom viewing.
- Measuring swatches, yarn and size worksheets, and border instructions.
- Offline yarn/size calculator, color previews and start-here instructions.
APPROXIMATE YARN REQUIREMENTS
Make the measuring panel for your chosen technique and working method. Weigh each color separately. The calculations include four side stitches, an adjustable A-color border allowance, CUT tails where used, and 10% extra yarn.
Illustrative calculation only: a 20 x 20 measured panel uses A 5 g / B 6 g; both yarns are 300 m / 100 g; skeins are 100 g; CUT tails are 15 cm at each end; the A-color envelope-border allowance is 12% of the combined body-and-edge weight.
- Mosaic CUT: A approximately 5,027 g (51 x 100 g skeins); B approximately 4,789 g (48 x 100 g skeins).
- Mosaic NO-CUT: A approximately 4,995 g (50 x 100 g skeins); B approximately 4,757 g (48 x 100 g skeins).
- Tapestry CUT: A approximately 1,290 g (13 x 100 g skeins); B approximately 1,226 g (13 x 100 g skeins).
- Tapestry NO-CUT: A approximately 1,259 g (13 x 100 g skeins); B approximately 1,195 g (12 x 100 g skeins).
These are examples using assumed sample weights, not measured consumption for a completed blanket. Replace the inputs with your own sample. Round each color up separately. At the same gauge, the larger Mosaic design uses substantially more yarn than Tapestry.
FINISHED SIZE
Body width including side stitches: Mosaic = 504 x w / 20; Tapestry = 254 x w / 20. Body height: Mosaic = 571 x h / 20; Tapestry = 285 x h / 20. Here w and h are your washed 20 x 20 panel dimensions in centimeters. Add twice the outer-border width to each body dimension.
At a 10 x 10 cm measuring-panel size, Mosaic is approximately 252.0 x 285.5 cm (99.2 x 112.4 in) before the outer border.
At a 10 x 10 cm measuring-panel size, Tapestry is approximately 127.0 x 142.5 cm (50.0 x 56.1 in) before the outer border.
PLANNING FOR 50 x 57 INCHES
For the picture area alone: Tapestry needs 5 stitches / 5 rows per inch; Mosaic needs 10 stitches / 10 rows per inch. Side stitches, the Mosaic closing row and an outer border add to the picture dimensions.
For a 50 x 57 inch body including side stitches but no outer border, a 20 x 20 panel should measure 10.000 x 10.160 cm for Tapestry or approximately 5.040 x 5.071 cm for Mosaic. Mosaic requires very fine gauge at this size. The guide provides formulas for fitting an outer border inside the target dimensions.
Yarn and hook choice cannot guarantee these dimensions. Use your washed sample and the calculator.
YARN AND HOOK STARTING POINTS
Fine / Sport: 280-320 m / 100 g; 3.5-4.0 mm hook.
DK / Light Worsted: 210-250 m / 100 g; 4.0-4.5 mm hook.
Aran / Worsted: 160-190 m / 100 g; 5.0-5.5 mm hook.
These are fabric-sampling starting points, not a promise of 50 x 57 inches. Very fine Mosaic gauge may require finer yarn and a smaller hook.
Digital crochet pattern. Yarn, tools and a finished blanket are not included.
