Gingerbread Cow - Crochet Blanket Pattern

A little Highland cow wears a baker’s hat and holds a star-topped pie in front of a gingerbread house. Snowflakes, candy canes, hearts, flowers and winter greenery complete the scene in soft white and gingerbread brown.

Choose Overlay Mosaic Crochet or Tapestry Crochet. Each complete pattern contains two alternative working methods: CUT and NO-CUT. Choose one method and follow its complete row-by-row instructions from beginning to end. The scene is charted separately for each technique. Mosaic preserves every brown picture cell and extends some contours into adjacent white cells for overlay anchors. Tapestry preserves every original cell color. Both keep all 367 columns and 570 picture rows.

All 209,190 original picture positions are retained. Tapestry follows every original cell color. Mosaic extends 7,939 white cells into brown contours for overlay anchors and adds a top closing row. The matching technique previews show these differences. An unaltered original grid PNG is included for reference.

APPROXIMATE YARN REQUIREMENTS
Yarn requirements depend on your swatch, yarn label, working method, tension and border. The included guide calculates each color from a weighed 20 x 20 panel. It includes the side stitches, an adjustable A-color border allowance, CUT row tails when applicable, and 10% extra yarn.

Illustrative calculation: if the selected technique's 20 x 20 panel uses 5 g of A and 6 g of B, with 300 m / 100 g yarn, 100 g skeins, 15 cm row tails and a 12% A-color envelope-border allowance:
- Mosaic CUT: A approximately 3,709 g / 11,125 m (38 x 100 g skeins); B approximately 3,533 g / 10,599 m (36 x 100 g skeins).
- Mosaic NO-CUT: A approximately 3,677 g / 11,031 m (37 x 100 g skeins); B approximately 3,502 g / 10,505 m (36 x 100 g skeins).
- Tapestry CUT: A approximately 3,739 g / 11,215 m (38 x 100 g skeins); B approximately 3,552 g / 10,656 m (36 x 100 g skeins).
- Tapestry NO-CUT: A approximately 3,676 g / 11,027 m (37 x 100 g skeins); B approximately 3,490 g / 10,468 m (35 x 100 g skeins).

FINISHED SIZE
Width including side stitches = 371 x (your 20-stitch swatch width / 20). Height = the selected chart's row count x (your 20-row swatch height / 20). The finishing border adds to both dimensions.
For a 20 x 20 panel measuring 10 x 10 cm, the Mosaic body including side stitches is approximately 185.5 x 285.5 cm (73.0 x 112.4 in), before the outer border.

YARN AND HOOK STARTING POINTS
Fine / Sport: 280-320 m / 100 g; 3.5-4.0 mm hook.
DK / Light Worsted: 210-250 m / 100 g; 4.0-4.5 mm hook.
Aran / Worsted: 160-190 m / 100 g; 5.0-5.5 mm hook.
