Crochet Cappuccino Rose- Free Pattern

Materials for a Crochet Cappuccino Rose

• Fine yarn in your chosen rose colour, plus green yarn for the sepal, leaf and stem
• A 2.0 mm crochet hook, or a suitable size for your yarn
• Scissors
• A tapestry needle for sewing and weaving in ends
• Stitch markers
• A flower rod approximately 40 cm long and 2 mm in diameter
• Flexible craft wire approximately 0.5 mm in diameter for the leaf
• Hot glue and a glue gun for assembly
• Wire cutters for trimming the craft wire

Choose a yarn and hook combination that produces firm stitches without making the fabric difficult to work. Yarn weight, hook size and tension will affect the finished flower size.

Skill Level and Gauge

This project is best suited to crocheters who are comfortable with double and treble crochet, working around a foundation chain, decorative edging and shaping a flower during assembly.

A specific gauge is not required for this decorative project. Keep your tension consistent, and check that the strip curls comfortably into a rose before attaching it permanently to the stem.

This revised written pattern uses US crochet terminology.

• sc: single crochet
• hdc: half double crochet
• dc: double crochet
• tr: treble crochet

• picot: a small decorative chain loop
• [number]: stitch count at the end of a row or round

Special Stitch: Two-Chain Picot

Chain 2, then slip stitch into the first of those two chains to make a small loop. This picot adds a raised accent without using another stitch from the previous row.

Pattern Notes

• The flower is worked as a flat strip, then rolled into a rose.
• Turning chains and joining slip stitches do not count as stitches in this version.
• Instructions separated by commas are worked in successive stitches unless they explicitly say in the same stitch.
• When a step says to work several stitches in one stitch, complete all of them in that single stitch before moving on.
• For one stem, make one flower strip, one sepal and at least one leaf. Add a second leaf if you prefer the arrangement shown in the assembly photos.

Crochet the Flower Strip

R1: Foundation Chain

Using your rose-coloured yarn, ch 62.

R2: First Double Crochet Row

Starting in the fourth chain from the hook, repeat (2 dc in the next chain, sk 1 chain) 29 times. Work 2 dc in the final chain. [60 dc]

The three skipped starting chains do not count as a stitch. This row uses all 59 available foundation chains.

R3: Second Double Crochet Row

Turn and ch 3. Repeat (sk 1 st, 2 dc in the next st) 30 times. [60 dc]

Do not add another pair of double crochets after the final repeat. The turning chain does not count as a stitch.

R4: Shape the Petals

Turn your work. Work the following groups across the 60 stitches of R3. Each numbered item tells you what to work into one stitch of R3.

First Petal: Work Once Across 3 Stitches

1. In the first st: ch 3 and 1 tr.
2. In the next st: 3 tr.
3. In the next st: 1 tr, ch 3 and 1 ss.

Small Petals: Repeat 4 Times, Using 4 Stitches per Petal

1. In the next st: 1 ss, ch 3 and 1 tr.
2. In the next st: 2 tr, then make a two-chain picot.
3. In the next st: 1 tr.
4. In the next st: 1 tr, ch 3 and 1 ss.

Medium Petals: Repeat 4 Times, Using 5 Stitches per Petal

1. In the next st: 1 ss, ch 3 and 1 tr.
2. In the next st: 2 tr.
3. In the next st: 1 tr, then make a two-chain picot.
4. In the next st: 2 tr.
5. In the next st: 1 tr, ch 3 and 1 ss.

Large Petals: Repeat 3 Times, Using 7 Stitches per Petal

1. In the next st: 1 ss, ch 3 and 1 tr.
2. In the next st: 2 tr.
3. In the next st: 1 tr.
4. In the next st: 1 tr, then make a two-chain picot.
5. In the next st: 1 tr.
6. In the next st: 2 tr.
7. In the next st: 1 tr, ch 3 and 1 ss.

Petal placement check: 3 + (4 × 4) + (4 × 5) + (3 × 7) = 60 stitches. You should have 12 petals and no unused stitches from R3.

Ch 1 and fasten off, leaving a tail for securing the rolled flower.

Crochet the Sepal

Use green yarn. The sepal has a round centre and six pointed sections.

• R1: Make a magic ring. Ch 3 and work 12 dc into the ring. Tighten the ring and join with 1 ss to the first dc. [12 dc]
• R2: Ch 6. Starting in the second chain from the hook, work 1 ss, 1 sc, 1 hdc and 2 dc along the chain. Sk the next st of R1 and join with 1 ss in the following st of R1. Repeat this point-and-join sequence 6 times in total.

The six joins are spaced two base stitches apart. On the sixth repeat, join back into the first dc of R1. Ch 1 and fasten off, leaving a tail for attaching the sepal.

Crochet the Leaf

Use green yarn. Lay the flexible wire along the foundation chain and crochet around it as you work. Keep both wire ends at the base of the leaf.

Foundation

Ch 12.

R1: Work Around the Foundation Chain

Starting in the second chain from the hook, work 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 4 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc and 1 sc along the next 10 chains.

Work 3 sc in the final chain to form the leaf tip. Mark the middle of these three stitches.

Rotate the piece and work along the unused side of the foundation chain: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 4 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc and 1 sc. Join with 1 ss to the first sc. [23 sts]

R2: Decorative Edging

1. Ch 1 and work 1 sc in the first st.
2. Repeat (1 sc in the next st, ch 2) 10 times.
3. In the marked tip st, work 1 sc, a two-chain picot, 1 sc and ch 2, all anchored in that same tip st.
4. Repeat (1 sc in the next st, ch 2) 10 times.
5. Work 1 sc in the final st. Join with 1 ss to the first sc.

This edging uses all 23 stitches of R1 and contains 24 sc, with two sc at the tip. Fasten off and leave a tail for wrapping the wire at the leaf base.

Assemble the Cappuccino Rose

Step 1: Arrange the Pieces

Prepare the flower strip, sepal, leaf or leaves, flower rod and green yarn. Before gluing, try rolling the strip to check the size and shape of the rose.

Step 2: Roll and Attach the Flower

Begin at the end with the smallest petal. Roll the lower edge of the strip around the top of the flower rod, keeping the petal tips free. Continue so that the larger petals form the outer layers.

Adjust the bloom before fixing it in place. Sew through the lower edge to hold the layers together, or apply small amounts of hot glue to the base as you roll. Keep glue away from the visible petal tips.

Step 3: Attach the Sepal

Place the sepal beneath the flower. Spread its six points around the base and secure the centre with stitches or a small amount of hot glue.

Step 4: Start Wrapping the Stem

Secure green yarn just below the sepal. Wrap it closely around the flower rod to cover the attachment area and create an even stem.

Step 5: Add the Leaf and Finish

Position the wired leaf against the stem at your preferred height. Continue wrapping green yarn over the leaf wire and flower rod to secure them together. Add a second leaf if desired.

Cover all wire ends, finish wrapping the stem and secure the yarn end with a small amount of hot glue. Once the glue has set, gently shape the petals and leaf.

Colour and Bouquet Ideas
