Make a crochet Pink Champion flower with a shaped pink flower piece, a slender central spike and a yarn-wrapped stem. Inspired by the heart-shaped form of an anthurium, this flower works well as a single stem in a vase or as part of a handmade bouquet.
This free pattern uses Tunisian crochet for the main flower piece and ordinary single crochet for the central spike. You will make the two pieces separately, then assemble them on a flower rod.

Colour and Bouquet Ideas
Use pale pink for a soft look, or try coral, white or a deeper pink for a different colour scheme. Keep the central spike distinct from the surrounding flower piece so its shape is easy to see.
Display one stem on its own, or combine several with crochet roses, daisies and greenery. The bouquet photos below offer ideas for mixing flower shapes and colours; this tutorial covers the Pink Champion flower and stem.
Materials

- Pink yarn: for the main flower piece and the first four rounds of the central spike.
- White yarn: for the remaining rounds of the central spike. A light cream shade is another option.
- Green yarn: for wrapping the stem.
- 2.5 mm crochet hook: with enough usable shaft space to hold the loops during the Tunisian rows.
- Flower rod: approximately 40 cm long and 2 mm in diameter.
- Stitch marker.
- Scissors.
- Yarn or darning needle.
- Hot glue and a glue gun for assembly.
The pattern does not specify a yarn weight or yardage. Choose yarn that works comfortably with your hook and produces a flower piece that holds its shape.
Skill Level and Gauge
Intermediate. You should be comfortable with basic crochet stitches and with keeping multiple loops on the hook for Tunisian crochet.
No fixed gauge or finished flower dimensions are specified. Yarn thickness, hook size and tension will affect the result. Keep your stitches even and the return passes loose enough to avoid pulling the flower piece out of shape.
Stitches and Abbreviations
This pattern uses US crochet terminology.
- ch: chain.
- ss: slip stitch.
- sc: single crochet.
- hdc: half double crochet.
- dc: double crochet.
- tr: treble crochet.
- st / sts: stitch / stitches.
- yo: yarn over.
Read the technique before starting: Rows 1–14 of the main flower use Tunisian (Afghan) crochet. Their stitch labels describe the forward-pass sequence, with loops retained on the hook. Row 15 and the central spike use ordinary crochet stitches.
Understanding the Tunisian Rows
A Tunisian row has two parts: a forward pass that collects loops on the hook, followed by a return pass that works them off. Keep the same side facing you while working these passes.
For the low Afghan stitches marked sc in the flower rows, draw up a loop through the indicated chain or vertical bar and keep it on the hook. For dc, yarn over before insertion, draw up a loop, then yarn over and pull through two loops. For tr, yarn over twice before insertion, draw up a loop, then yarn over and pull through two loops twice. Each stitch leaves an additional loop on the hook for the return pass.
Return Pass
- Yarn over and pull through one loop.
- Yarn over and pull through two loops repeatedly until one loop remains.
- For Rows 8–14, work the return pass until three loops remain, then yarn over and pull through all three together.
Complete the return pass before beginning the next flower row. The foundation for this project is given below; it does not use a separate 16-chain practice swatch.
Pattern Notes
- The main flower is one shaped piece, rather than several separate petals.
- The flower instructions are numbered as rows; the central spike is worked in rounds.
- Where two stitches are worked in the next stitch, both use the same insertion point.
- Rows 6 and 10 have shorter written stitch sequences than the surrounding rows. Check your shaping against the progress photos before continuing.
- The 40 cm measurement refers to the flower rod, not the finished bloom.
Step-by-Step Crochet Pink Champion Flower Pattern
1. Start the Main Flower Piece
Use pink yarn. Work Rows 1–14 in Tunisian crochet, completing a return pass after each forward pass.
- Foundation: ch 5. Join with an ss in the first chain to form a ring. Ch 12.
- Row 1: begin in the fifth chain from the hook, using the back bar of the chain. Work 3 tr, 3 dc and 2 sc in the Tunisian forward pass, then complete the return pass.

2. Work the First Side
Follow each forward-pass sequence below, then complete the return pass.
- Row 2: ch 4, 3 tr, 3 dc, 3 sc.
- Row 3: ch 4, 2 tr in the next st, 2 tr, 3 dc, 3 sc.
- Row 4: ch 4, 2 tr in the next st, 3 tr, 3 dc, 3 sc.
- Row 5: ch 4, 2 tr in the next st, 4 tr, 3 dc, 3 sc.
- Row 6: ch 4, 2 tr in the next st, 1 tr, 2 dc, 2 sc.
- Row 7: ch 4, 2 tr in the next st, 3 tr, 5 dc, 4 sc.
Transition: ch 5. Starting in the second chain from the hook, work 1 ss in each of the next two chains. Ch 2 before continuing with Row 8.

3. Work the Second Side
For every row from Row 8 through Row 14, close the final three loops of the return pass together.
- Row 8: 2 tr in the next st, 5 tr, 4 dc, 4 sc.
- Row 9: ch 4, 5 tr, 5 dc, 4 sc.
- Row 10: ch 4, 3 tr, 2 dc, 2 sc.
- Row 11: ch 4, 6 tr, 3 dc, 3 sc.
- Row 12: ch 4, 5 tr, 3 dc, 3 sc.
- Row 13: ch 4, 4 tr, 3 dc, 3 sc.
- Row 14: ch 4, 3 tr, 3 dc, 3 sc.
- Row 15: switch to ordinary crochet. Ch 5, 3 tr, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ss. Fasten off and weave in the end.

4. Crochet the Central Flower Spike
Use ordinary single crochet for this section. Begin with pink yarn and place a marker in the first stitch of each round.
- Round 1: make a magic ring and work 6 sc into it. Tighten the ring. (6 sts)
- Rounds 2–4: 1 sc in each st around. (6 sts in each round)
- Round 5: change to white yarn and work 1 sc in each st around. (6 sts)
- Rounds 6–12: continue with white yarn, working 1 sc in each st around. (6 sts in each round)
- Work 1 ss to finish. Fasten off and secure the ends, keeping the lower opening accessible for the flower rod.

How to Assemble the Crochet Flower
1. Attach the Spike to the Rod
Insert the top of the flower rod through the open base of the central spike. Apply a small amount of hot glue to secure it, keeping glue away from the visible stitches. Allow it to set.

2. Add the Pink Flower Piece
Position the pink flower piece beneath the spike, bringing the rod through the centre opening. Adjust the piece so the spike rests against its front, then secure the join with a small amount of hot glue.

3. Wrap the Stem
Secure the end of the green yarn just below the flower. Wrap it evenly down the rod, covering the join and any exposed metal. Secure the final yarn end with a small amount of glue and let it dry before arranging the stem.

Common Questions
Can I use a different yarn or hook?
Yes, but the size and firmness of the flower will change. Start with the suggested 2.5 mm hook and compatible yarn, then adjust after you have tried the shaping.
Does this pattern include leaves?
This tutorial covers the main flower piece, central spike and wrapped stem. For greenery, choose a separate leaf project from the free crochet flower pattern list.
Is the PDF below a printable version of this flower?
The Coral Anthurium PDF is a separate C2C blanket design with charts and written block sequences. It is a different project from the three-dimensional flower made in this free tutorial.
